Rajasthan Royals Predicted Playing 11
Rajasthan Royals Predicted Playing 11
Openers
Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal
After a magnificent IPL 2022 performance where Buttler received Orange Cap scoring 864 runs (2nd highest ever for an individual in an IPL), It is pertinent to note that Jos Buttler will open the batting for Rajasthan Royals where he has done really well in the last few years.
Buttler has also done well in the T20 internationals opening the batting. Ever since Buttler started to open the batting for England, he has scored 1673 runs at an enviable average of 49.21 with a remarkable strike rate of 152.23.
Along with Jos Buttler, Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to open the batting for the RR. Though Jaiswal was dropped after a few bad performances last year in the IPL, He came back into the team and scored a few notable knocks to keep his place there.
In the last one year, Jaiswal's form has been good enough to keep his place in the starting XI as an opener
Middle Orders
Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson
Looking at last year's trend, the No.3 spot will be decided according to the conditions and matchups.
If Rajasthan gets a flying start or If Jos Buttler falls early, Skipper Sanju Samson will come at No.3.
If Jaiswal falls early, Devdutt Padikkal will be expected to provide the left-right combination or the RR think tank could surprise everyone in odd matches by sending veteran Ravi Ashwin or even new entrant Jason Holder
Finishers
Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag
The number 5 position is reserved for hard-hitting west Indian Shimron Hetmyer who has been contributing really well in the last two years.
Hetmyer has scored 242 and 314 runs at a strike rate above 150 in IPL 2021 and IPL 2022 respectively.
Similar to how No.5 has been reserved in the RR setup, the No.6 position is reserved for youngster Riyan Parag who has been in the playing XI for the past 3 years, taking superlative catches on the field every match, one random over with the ball occasionally and one match-winning knock for every season.
However, Riyan Parag is expected to perform far better to justify his position in the playing XI and his constant backing from RR Management, mainly to silence his critics.
The youngster has been doing exceptionally well in the domestic league's over the last one year,
This could be a break-even IPL season for Riyan Parag
All-Rounders
Jason Holder, Ravi Ashwin
Rajasthan Royals struggled last season by not having a quality all-rounder as they had to depend on Ravi Ashwin to do the job who is well known for his all-round capabilities in the longer format than in the shorter formats
RR bought Jason Holder at 5.75 crores, which can be a steal of the auction if Holder plays according to his potential.
After a Superlative Border-Gavaskar Trophy performance, Veteran Ravi Ashwin is expected to do what he has been doing over the years in the IPL.
Bowlers
Yuzvendra Chalal, Trent Boult & Kuldeep Sen
Rajasthan Royals will have to play IPL 2023 without the services of Prasidh Krishna who has been ruled out due to a Lumbar Stress Fracture
Seasoned campaigner Trent Boult and Yuzvendra Chalal are expected to retain their places, however, between the toss-up between Kuldeep Sen and Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep sen is likely to start for Rajasthan Royals considering his performance last year which even got him his maiden India call.
Backups
Donovan Ferreira, who had a very good outing for Joburg Super Kings in the SA20 league will be the ideal replacement for Hetmyer if the latter fails to perform at No.5. The RR team management could also try champion player Joe Root at the top, who had a wonderful UAE league as an opener.
Obed Mcoy and Adam Zampa can come into the playing 11 if conditions demand their services, they could come in the place of Jason Holder or for any injury to Trent Boult
Top 3 players to watch out for
Jos Buttler
Expected to give starts to RR. If he plays to his potential, he can score another 600+ season
Yuzvendra Chalal
Expected to provide crucial breakthroughs in the middle overs
Jason Holder
Expected to bowl at the death along with boult and to make quick-fire knocks at No.7 as a finisher
