#ThrowbackThursday - 5 Mad dashes

Image
In this edition, let's look at list of most scored by a team in the last 5 overs of an IPL innings 5. RCB vs MI, Wankhede 2015 - 88 runs                   There was a period of time when RCB meant 3 names trying to win the game all by themselves. Gayle, AB, Kohli. The embodiment of that is this scorecard. Only 3 batters batted. Scored 235 batting first. Including the then highest partnership in all T20s.. Won the game. Easy peasy. But the details are what makes it even more incredible. RCB were 88/1 at the end of 10 overs on a batting paradise at the Wankhede stadium. Even though AB had started brightly, Kohli was batting on 30 off 23 balls. Then the magic happened. As we have seen numerous times since, two of the preeminent batters of their generation created a sense of awe, matching each other shot for shot and taking 59 runs of the next 5 overs. If that was crazy, they went a few steps further and scored 88 runs of ...

Gujarat Titans Predicted Playing 11

Image
GT Predicted Playing 11 Defending champions Gujarat Titans start their IPL 2023 campaign against Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad on March 31, 2023.   Not many predicted that Hardik Pandya would lead the Gujarat Titans to their maiden title in their first attempt last year. Even their auction performance looked very ordinary for all the cricket pundits and fans across the world. As they say, a team is made of a collection of parts, and they become a formidable team when the sum of those parts plays together. The Gujarat Titans did the same last year; they had everyone in the team perform throughout the tournament, starting with Gill, Saha on the powerplays, Hardik in the middle overs, Tewatia and Miller as finishers, and Shami and Rashid controlling the opposition and picking wickets. This year, they decided to let go of Lockie Ferguson, who holds 10 crores of their purse value, and let go of Gurbaz to KKR. ...

Sunrisers Hyderabad Predicted Playing 11

SRH Predicted Playing 11 Sun Risers Hyderabad, also known as SRH, is a franchise cricket team that represents the city of Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The team was founded in 2014 and has been a consistent performer in the tournament. For more than half the decade, SRH was synonymous with David Warner and Rashid Khan. However, last year, before the mega auction, SRH let go of David Warner and Rashid Khan and decided to go with NZ skipper Kane Williamson. As Williamson had a mediocre season with the bat last year and his price tag was 14C, SRH decided to revamp the team structure again and went on to the auctions with 42C. Now, after picking decent players in the auction with new strategies, they have decided to go with Aiden Markram as the skipper for IPL 2023, who led and won the inaugural SA T20 league for their sister franchise, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Openers    Mayank Agarwal, Abhishek Sharma A...

#ThrowbackThursday - 10 most expensive spells in the IPL

Image
In our first article of this throwback series, we'll look at 10 bowlers who went the distance in an IPL match 10 . Marco Jansen vs GT, Wankhede 2022, 4-0-63-0                 On an unforgiving pitch at the batting friendly Wankhede, SRH scored 195 runs batting first.  By the 20th over of the GT innings, Umran Malik had bowled what was arguably the greatest bowling spell in IPL history to single handedly bring SRH back into the contest, picking each of the 5 wickets to have fallen. Kane Williamson had bowled out Umran, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar and Natarajan leaving previous match's POTM Marco Jansen to bowl the last over. At the crease were Tewatia and Rashid Khan needing 22 of the last 6 balls, with GT seemingly pulling off heists almost every other match in the tournament. Jansen, though already expensive having leaked 38 runs in his first 3 overs, wouldn't have anticipated the carnage that awaited him. Tewatia hit the 1st ball fo...

RCB Predicted Playing 11 RCB has been a part of the IPL since its inception in 2008, but they have yet to win the coveted trophy. The team has come close to winning the title on a few occasions, reaching the final three times but falling short each time. However, despite this lack of success, RCB continues to pull fans, attract some of the biggest names in cricket, and remains a popular and formidable team in the IPL. Openers    Faf du plessis, Virat Kohli After a very ordinary 2.5 years with the bat, Virat Kohli is finally looking like his old self with 5 international centuries in the last 6-7 months. Kohli is expected to open (His Fav position in IPL) for RCB this year. Kohli had a horrid IPL season last year scoring just 341 runs at an average of 22.73. However, in IPL 2023, Kohli is expected to have a good season. Along with Kohli, Skipper Faf is expected to open for RCB, Though Faf hasn't played any internationals for the ...

Rajasthan Royals Predicted Playing 11

Image
Rajasthan Royals Predicted Playing 11   Openers    Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal After a magnificent IPL 2022 performance where Buttler received Orange Cap scoring 864 runs (2nd highest ever for an individual in an IPL), It is pertinent to note that Jos Buttler will open the batting for Rajasthan Royals where he has done really well in the last few years. Buttler has also done well in the T20 internationals opening the batting. Ever since Buttler started to open the batting for England, he has scored 1673 runs at an enviable average of 49.21 with a remarkable strike rate of 152.23. Along with Jos Buttler, Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal is expected to open the batting for the RR. Though Jaiswal was dropped after a few bad performances last year in the IPL, He came back into the team and scored a few notable knocks to keep his place there. In the last one year, Jaiswal's form has been good enough to keep his place in the starting XI as an opener...

The viewership of women's cricket on television has been steadily increasing. The ICC Women's World Cup and other major tournaments have been broadcasted globally allowing fans to watch and support their preferred team. With the advent of T20 leagues like the Women's Big Bash League, The Hundred's Women's Competition, and the cash-rich new entrant Women's Premier League, the future of Women's cricket looks promising . The four who followed-on!

Image
Last week, in one of most thrilling finishes in recent memory, New Zealand became only the 2nd team to win a test match by 1 run. Though the thrilling finish and the twists and turns of the last day of play were enthralling, it must not be forgotten that New Zealand were made to follow on by Ben Stokes before an excellent batting display by the likes of Kane Williamson and co. led New Zealand to a position from where they became only the 4th team to will a game after being made to follow on. Here's a short look at the 4 instances. 1. Sydney - 1894-95       This match happened in an era when there were only 3 nations playing test cricket. In the 1st match of a five test Ashes series (one of the first few test series to contain 5 test matches), England did the unthinkable.        Australia plundered 586 in the first innings (S. Gregory 201, G. Giffen 161, F.A. Iredale 81, J.M. Blackham 74, Tom Richardson 5/181). E...
